Dr. Nathan Kundtz is the founder and Chief Executive Officer and President of Kymeta Corporation. Kymeta has been recognized for its disruptive technology that will make mobile communications more accessible and secure the world over. In the last four years Dr. Kundtz and his team at Kymeta have closed $124 million in funding and developed a thinner, flatter, lighter satellite antenna technology; making it feasible to connect anything that moves to high speed, high bandwidth satellite networks like never before.
For his work at Kymeta Dr. Kundtz was awarded the 2016 AHEAD Innovators Award during the 15th Annual 2b AHEAD ThinkTank Future Congress. This award was closely preceded by the Frost & Sullivan 2016 New Product Innovation Award. The company has also been recognized as a CNBC Disruptor, a FiReStarter by Strategic News Network and a top 50 MIT Technology Review Disruptive Company.
Dr. Kundtz has been instrumental in forming significant partnerships signed with industry leaders including Toyota, Intelsat, Panasonic, Inmarsat, Sharp, Intellian, O3b and more.
Dr. Kundtz has a Master's in Electrical Engineering and Ph.D. in Physics from Duke University. His work has covered topics in low-temperature condensed matter physics as well as metamaterials and microwave devices; areas in which he has amassed more than 40 patents and patent applications as well as over 30 peer reviewed publications. His award-winning doctoral research at Duke provided the basis upon which Kymeta would later be founded. Dr. Kundtz is currently an adjunct assistant professor of Electrical Engineering at Duke University, a member of the Duke University Graduate School Board of Visitors, and a member of the Forbes Technology Council.
Dr. Kundtz's work in metamaterials at Duke led to his recruitment to Intellectual Ventures in Bellevue, WA, where he pioneered the use of metamaterials technologies in electronic beam-forming applications. The success of this technology at Intellectual Ventures ultimately led to the spin-out of Kymeta Corporation in August 2012.

Marc has over 27 years of comprehensive business leadership and financial management experience in diverse markets both domestically and internationally. Marc has served in multiple executive roles at major corporations and early stage businesses.
Most recently, Marc was the CFO of the Seattle-based e-commerce retailer zulily. At zulily, Marc successfully completed the IPO in November 2013, and in just two years, helped to more than triple the company's revenue growing from $330 million to more than $1.2 billion, all while attaining profitability and reversing the cumulative net loss position.
Prior to zulily, Marc held CFO positions at several companies including action sports teen retailer Zumiez, online diamond jewelry retailer Blue Nile, and renewable energy company Imperium Renewables.
Marc also served in a number of finance and executive capacities at Starbucks Coffee including Vice President of Finance for North America, CFO of Starbucks Coffee Japan where he led the successful IPO completion within the Japanese market, and Senior Vice President of Finance & Business Development of Starbucks Coffee International. During his 13 year tenure revenue increased from $250 million to $7.8 billion.

Bill, a founder and senior executive in the satellite and cable TV industries for over 25 years, is also an active investor in mobile platform technology and software as a service companies.
Prior to that, he was the CEO and Chairman of the Board of Maritime Telecommunications Network (MTN), which provides satellite connectivity and content to remote locations around the world. MTN's customer segments include cruise lines, yachts, oil and gas, news agencies, aviation and the government and military. In 2007, Bill won the prestigious Ernst and Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award for his role there.
Earlier in his career, he was involved with DIRECTV by founding a national sales and installation company that helped DIRECTV to become the fastest growing consumer electronic company in the US at that time. Before getting involved with satellite, he held several executive roles in cable TV, including as a multiple system owner and operator.

Allan McArtor is Chairman and CEO of Airbus Group, Inc. He oversees the operations, activities and strategy of all Airbus Group companies in the United States, Canada and Latin America. Additionally, McArtor continues to serve as Chairman of Airbus Americas, Inc., and its subsidiaries. In this leadership role in the Americas, McArtor has enhanced relationships with Airbus' customers, suppliers and government representatives.Throughout his career, McArtor has held a series of leadership and senior management positions in the military, civil and government sectors.
Before joining Airbus, he was founder, chairman and CEO of Legend Airlines, a regional airline based at Dallas Love Field, Texas.
President Ronald Reagan appointed McArtor to serve as the Administrator of the FAA from 1987 to 1989.
McArtor served on the senior management team of Federal Express from 1979 to 1987 and 1989 to 1994 first as Senior Vice President Telecommunications during the development of FedEx’s extensive satellite-based digital network, then as Senior Vice President Air Operations for FedEx’s global airline.
McArtor was a combat fighter pilot in Vietnam from 1968 to 1969, an Associate Professor of Engineering Mechanics at the Air Force Academy, and a pilot with the U.S. Air Force’s Thunderbirds Aerial Demonstration Team.
He is a 1964 graduate of the U.S. Air Force Academy (BSE) and holds a master’s degree (MSE) from Arizona State University. He holds an honorary doctorate degree from Christian Brothers University in Memphis, Tennessee, in recognition of his role in establishing the School of Telecommunications and Information Systems.
Dr. Smith is currently the William Bevan Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Duke University. Dr. Smith serves as Director for the Center for Metamaterial and Integrated Plasmonics and concurrently is Acting Director of the newly formed Metamaterials Commercialization Center at Intellectual Ventures in Bellevue, Washington. He holds a secondary faculty appointment in the Physics Department at Duke University and a Visiting Professor of Physics at Imperial College, London. Dr. Smith received his Ph.D. in 1994 in Physics from the University of California, San Diego (UCSD). Dr. Smith’s research interests include the theory, simulation and characterization of unique electromagnetic structures, including photonic crystals, metamaterials and plasmonic nanostructures. Smith and his colleagues demonstrated the first left-handed (or negative index) metamaterial at microwave frequencies in 2000, and also demonstrated a metamaterial invisibility cloak in 2006.
In 2005, Dr. Smith was part of a five member team that received the Descartes Research Prize, awarded by the European Union, for their contributions to metamaterials and other novel electromagnetic materials. In 2006, Dr. Smith was selected as one of the Scientific American 50.In 2009, Dr. Smith was named a Citation Laureate by Thomson-Reuters ISI Web of Knowledge, for having among the most number of highly cited papers in the field of Physics over the past decade. Most recently, Dr. Smith is a co-recipient of the McGroddy Prize for New Materials, awarded by the American Physical Society, for the discovery of metamaterials.
Tuvia Barak has served as a Venture Partner with Lux Capital since 2005. In 1982, Mr. Barak joined Tadiran, Inc., the North American subsidiary of Tadiran, the largest electronics conglomerate in Israel. During his 12-year tenure, over $3 billion in revenue was achieved under his direction, and Tadiran became one of the major suppliers of tactical communications to the U.S. Army. Mr. Barak developed strategic alliances and partnerships with some of the largest aerospace and defense companies. In 1993, Mr. Barak established his own marketing and consulting practice, advising U.S. and international companies on business development, marketing strategies, technology assessment, and mergers and acquisitions in the aerospace and technology fields.Mr. Barak is a member of the Board of Directors of Skyline Software, WhiteCanyon Software, Weatherbell Analytics, and Toonimo and special advisor to Kymeta Corp., and Heller Industries.
Barak previously served as a Board Director at Brashear LP., Fairchild Imaging, and Arinc Corp., all of which were acquired by major companies with exceptional returns to their investors. His many clients have included The Carlyle Group, Boeing, L-3 Communications, ITT, General Dynamics, AAI/Textron, BAE, EDS, DRS, Elbit Systems, Schott, Selex, Ness Technologies, Vought Aircraft, SanDisk, United Defense, Mantech International, NanoSys, MapInfo, Rockwell Collins and Raytheon. Mr. Barak has a M.Sc. in E.E. from the Technion Institute of Technology, Israel.
Susan J. Irwin is the president of Irwin Communications, Inc., a consulting and research firm which she founded in 1985, focusing on the satellite and communications industry. She also heads the U.S. Office of Euroconsult, a global research and consulting firm headquartered in Paris.For more than 35 years, Ms. Irwin has been researching and analyzing industry trends and developments in satellite communications for voice, data and video applications. Ms. Irwin began her satellite career in 1977, working on a project that demonstrated the use of satellites for education and delivery of public services in rural areas. Then, as a telecommunications policy analyst for the National Telecommunications and Information Administration of the U.S. Department of Commerce, she managed the Satellite Applications Program, which initiated some of the early satellite distance learning activities in the US and in emerging regions. Ms. Irwin then joined the start-up team of Private Satellite Network, Inc., a company that pioneered the use of satellites for corporate video networks.
Ms. Irwin is widely published and a frequent speaker at conferences throughout the world. Since its inception in 2002, Ms. Irwin has been the conference chair of SATCON, a major satellite industry conference that takes place in New York annually. Ms. Irwin is a co-founder and Director Emeritus of the Society of Satellite Professionals International, a Director Emeritus of the Arthur C. Clarke Foundation, on the Board of Governors of the Pacific Telecommunications Council, and Vice President and a Director of the American Astronautical Society. In 2013, Ms. Irwin was inducted into the Society of Satellite Professionals International (SSPI) Satellite Hall of Fame for her outstanding achievements in the industry. She holds a Masters of Arts degree from San Francisco State University.
Dr. Mackay is a seasoned executive with a successful record in leading technology-based companies to growth and profitability. Mackay is managing partner of Mile Marker 101 LLC, providing CEO advisory services to Aviation and Mobile Connectivity businesses. Mackay’s corporate business career spans more than three decades, and includes significant experience as an aviation and communications executive, and as a corporate Director.Mackay recently served as CEO and President of EMS Technologies, Inc., Norcross, GA, where he steered the company through its 2011 acquisition by Honeywell for $500 Million. EMS, serving the Aviation and Logistics sectors, was the world leader in aviation connectivity, equipping thousands of airlines, business jets and military aircraft with broadband communications in the air. EMS Global Resource Management Unit’s LXE and Global Tracking Divisions provided world leadership in data messaging and location based services to the warehouse and transportation markets.
Mackay is a recipient of the Canadian Business Aviation Association’s Lifetime Achievement Award for service to the aviation industry. He has served as a corporate director on ten boards, the US TechAmerica Board of Directors, and the Innovation Council of Queen’s University. He is the author of more than 40 publications.
Chetan Sharma is the president of Chetan Sharma Consulting and is one of the leading strategists in the mobile industry. He has served as an advisor to senior executive management of several Fortune 100 companies in the wireless space and is probably the only industry strategist who has advised each of the top 6 global mobile data operators. Some of his clients include NTT DoCoMo, Disney, KTF, China Mobile, Toyota, Comcast, Motorola, FedEx, Sony, Samsung, Alcatel Lucent, KDDI, Virgin Mobile, Sprint, Skype, AT&T Wireless, Facebook, Juniper, Qualcomm, Nokia, Microsoft, UN, SAP, Merrill Lynch, Telefonica, American Express, and Hewlett-Packard.
Chetan is the author or co-author of twelve best-selling books on wireless including Mobile Advertising: Supercharge Your Brand in the Exploding Wireless Market and Wireless Broadband: Conflict and Convergence. His research work is widely quoted in the industry.
Chetan is interviewed frequently by leading international media publications such as Time magazine, New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Techcrunch, BBC, Guardian, and others, and has appeared on NPR, WBBN, and CNBC as a wireless data technology expert. He is also the chief curator of the mobile thought leadership executive forums – Mobile Future Forward and Mobile Breakfast Series.Chetan is an advisor to CEOs and CTOs of some of the leading wireless technology companies on product strategy and Intellectual Property (IP) development, and serves on the advisory boards of several companies. Chetan is a senior member of IEEE, IEEE Communications Society, and IEEE Computers Society. He has Master of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from Kansas State University and Bachelor of Science degree from the Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee.
