Introduction

mTenna utilizes new reconfigurable antenna technology: Metamaterials Surface Antenna Technology (MSA-T). MSA-T enables wide-angle, all-electronic beam steering from a proprietary, PCB-like surface that can be manufactured using a mature and affordable lithography manufacturing infrastructure.
Unlike the vast majority of mobile satcom terminals in the market today that rely on mechanical gimbals to point an antenna, mTenna does not require mechanisms of any kind. Additionally, mTenna has the beam steering performance of a typical phased array, but is achieved without the use of expensive and power-hungry phase shifting components. As a result, mTenna products are expected to deliver a dramatic reduction in cost compared with mechanical terminals and even greater cost advantage over phased array products.
