Seattle-based Kymeta, the developer of metamaterials-based satellite antenna technology, and Airbus Defence and Space, announced Monday that the two are in a partnership covering maritime satellite antennas to the market. Financial details of the partnership were not announced. The two said that Airbus will sell Kymeta’s mTenna satcom antennas for use in the commercial shipping and super yacht market. Kymeta–which is backed by Bbill gates and Lux Capital–develops satellite antennas which are far lighter and flatter than current antenna technology, and also included technology which can electronically steer the antennas at satellites.
