Kymeta Corporation, a Redmond, Washington-based technology company that designs and manufactures satellite communication antennas and systems, closed a $50m Series C financing.

Backers included existing investors including Bill GatesLux Capital and Liberty Global and new investors Osage University Partners and The Kresge Foundation.

The company intends to use the funds to accelerate its growth plans.

Led by Chief Executive Officer Vern Fotheringham and newly promoted Bob McCambridge (president and chief operating officer), Dr. Nathan Kundtz (executive vice president and chief technology officer), and John Schilling (executive vice president and chief financial officer), Kymeta is commercializing a new metamaterials-based antenna for satellite communications. The company leverages a patented metamaterials technology that dynamically steers antenna beams with no moving parts, resulting in flat, thin and adaptable antennas and communication terminals.
